No festivities are complete without some meetha. But most Indian sweets traditionally are quite elaborate and take time to make. Today we're sharing a recipe with you that comes together very quickly.
Sev lapsi or meethi sev or sweet vermicelli is a delectable sweet dish that gets ready within 10 mins. This quick, delicious, light and yummy sweet is perfect for any gathering or just to fulfil your sweet cravings at home.
Here's the recipe
Ingredients
- 2 bowls Vermicelli (roasted or unroasted )
- 1-2 Tsp Ghee
- Cardamom/Elaichi
- Raisins/Kishmish
- 1/2 Tsp Poppy Seeds/ Khus Khus
- 3-4 cups warm Water/Milk
- 3-4 Tbsp Sugar
- Finely chopped almonds for garnishing ( optional)
Method
- In a deep pan add 1-2 spoons of desi ghee
- Once the ghee is hot, add 2 bowls of crushed vermicelli or hathichap sev to it
- Roast on slow to medium flame for 2-3 mins
- The colour will change and become dark brown
- Add the warm water once the vermicelli is cooked
- Stir continuously on slow flame after adding warm water
- Add the sugar
- Cook for 30 seconds and add more water if required
- Add cardamom and raisins and turn off the flame.
- Now you can either put it in a bowl and garnish it with khus-khus and finely chopped almonds
- Or you can pour the hot vermicelli on a plate and allow it to cool for 2 mins.
- Sprinkle little khus-khus ( optional but adds good flavour)
- Garnish with finely chopped almonds.
- Cut pieces and relish it like a barfi
PS. Instead of water if you add 3-4 cups of warm milk, you can also prepare seviyan by adding more sugar and dry fruits to this recipe.
