What are your plans for the Republic Day weekend?
Well, how about trying something different?
Instead of always talking orally to children about India’s freedom struggle, why not actually show them one of India’s international borders? Not only are these destinations famous for their fantastic views and majestic surroundings, but also relay the rich history of our freedom struggle and the sacrifice of the brave armed forces in various battles.
So here are some magnificent border destinations to pick from:
1. Wagah Border, Punjab:
This India-Pakistan border lies on the Grand Trunk Road between Amritsar and Lahore and is one of the most visited tourist destinations. Make sure you see the popular “Beating Retreat Ceremony” which is when the two countries formally close the border at night and lower their flags. The soldiers march with loud shouts and heavy foot stomping and raise their legs very high which is known as the “Goose Marching”.
