Parenting is complex, agreed, but why do we fret so much about it? We at Kidsstoppress have always believed in #SimplifyingParenting and that is just what our founder, Mansi Zaveri discussed at the panel discussion with authors Ashwin Sanghi, Kiran Manral, Ruchita Dar Shah of First Moms Club.

At the book launch of Ashwin Sangh and Kiran Manral’s latest book- “13 Steps To Bloody Good Parenting”– the take-home message was about why parents need to relax, take it slow and remember that they are the best!

The book, published by Westland Books helps breaking down parenting and making it simple to parents don’t fret out. Kiran Manral explained how this book is about telling parents to go with their instincts and demystify the whole process of parenting.

Slow down, parents:

When Kiran Manral asked co-author Ashwin Sanghi, the one thing he would have done differently in his parenting journey, the best-selling author had a very interesting reply. He explained how in our journey of life, we are always on the run, and when our kids are little and they need us- we are sometimes too busy running after our goals and later we complain that they grow up too quickly.

The need of the hour: Emotional Intelligence

The need of the hour is to raise kids who are emotionally strong and not ones who always feel the need to fall back on parents was one of the aspects that all the members of the panel agreed on. That’s exactly what Yuval Noah Harris had said as one of the essential skills for our kids in the 21st century.

The paradox of choices:

When quizzed by Kiran Manral on the biggest obstacle today’s parents are facing, here is what Mansi Zaveri said. She explained how the abundant choices leave the parents more confused than before. And another unifying aspect among today’s parents is how today’s parents want our kids to be overachievers all the time- not giving them enough room to grow, develop and understand what’s happening around them.

Define your values:

What is your family’s core values? What are the ones you believe in and expect your child to follow? It is essential we define this, to help smoothen our parenting journey.

It’s ok to be imperfect!

Do we as moms, in particular, give too much importance to perfection? Time to let go a little, moms!

The moms in the panel agreed to the fact that our constant endeavour to be perfect and to accept nothing less than 100% might set a wrong example for our kids.

Social media- boon or a bane?

The elephant in the room was discussed as well- all about parenting in today’s era of social media! There’s this whole FOMO, all everything that adds stress and pressure to the parenting experience. While the moms agreed that social media was a mix of a boon and bane, the need to steer clear from the inadequacy it feeds in our daily lives was agreed upon.

And when the moms discussed the core things they want their kids to learn or do in life, Mansi Zaveri explained she want her children to be fiercely independent, be constant learners, and learn to survive in this world.
