Every Mylaporean's favourite festival is back! The timing of the event couldn't be more perfect- ringing at the end of the Margazhi season, the event looks to celebrate the spirit of the oldest and most popular localities of the city. 

The Mylapore Festival is now a regular event every year, for more than a decade now. Starting with an innovative Kolam contest 10 years back, that aroused the interest of the supremely talented Mylaporeans, the festival has come a long way to etch itself as a prominent event in the city's calendar. What's special this year? The festival spanning over 4 days in over 12 venues has around 30 events planned and more than 100 artists performing! 

Here's what's planned for the kids! 

Art & Craft workshops (All art materials are provided by Sundaram Finance for this free workshop restricted to 25 children)

January 11 – Workshop I: Tanjore Style of Painting

Age group: 8-12 years Time: 8 am Venue: Chess Square, Nageswara Rao Park

January 12 – Workshop II: "Clay Sculpting"

Age group: 8-12 years Time: 8 am Venue: Chess Square, Nageswara Rao Park

Chess Tourney

January 11 and 12

The children will be grouped under three categories such as – under 8, under 10 and under 12.

Age group:

  • Under 8 – born on or after 1/1/2012
  • Under 10 – born on or after 1/1/2010
  • Under 12 – born on or after 1/1/2008

Time: 8:15 am Venue: Chess Square, Nageswara Rao Park, Luz

Heritage for Children

January 12

Time: 4 pm Venue: Navaratri Mantap, Sri Kapali Temple

Kolam Contest

January 11 and 12

Time: 3.45 pm Venue: North Mada Street (east end of the road), Mylapore 

Traditional Games

January 11 & 12

Time: 5 pm Venue: Hall inside Lady Sivaswamy Ayyar Girls School
