As this new year begins, there are a few changes that I’m planning to make to my kitchen. Eating healthy has always been on the top of my list of priorities. I already cook quite mindfully and use a lot of the so-called trendy ingredients so I would call these philosophies.

Going Back To Basics

I will be leveraging a lot more traditional south Indian recipes. South Indian food is packed with health benefits so going back more to more traditional fare is definitely on the cards for my family. The combination of lentils, vegetables, grains like ragi and spices make the dishes easy, uncomplicated and super nourishing.

One Pot Meals

Our lives are complicated enough, We’re always running from one chore to another. This year I am going to focus on making my everyday cooking easier and packed with goodness. The Instant Pot is going to be my go-to-gadget in 2018. I’m super excited to try out this new gadget in my kitchen which lends beautifully to India cooking. I truly want to practice less is more philosophy, so I want to look at 5-10 ingredient recipes 

Probiotic-Rich Food

I have come to realize that half our health problems stem from an unhealthy gut. So the focus shall be on a lot more probiotic-rich food. Naturally fermented pickles, yoghurt, condiments and even maybe sourdough bread are all on my have-more-often menu in 2018.  

Nut Free School Lunches

My daughter starts school this year and I will no longer have the luxury of day care provided lunch. I need to send nut free food in her school lunch box. So I shall have to experiment and wrack my brains about food that my daughter will enjoy eating in school. It has to be food which is healthy but easy for her to eat without making a mess. Shall keep you all posted.

Homemade Ice Creams And Popsicles

In a few months, the weather will change and ice creams and popsicles shall rule my home. My daughter loves them in the summer and they can really be packed with ingredients which are good for her. They can be dairy free, fruit infused, no-churn variety – the list is pretty long and interesting. It’s going to be a fun summer for us.
