Here is a list of the 5 best apps that we used when the daughter was growing up and is something that most kids take to very easily. It should be among the first few apps that you buy for your kids after they are 6 months.
1. Peekaboo Barn: Inside a little bouncing barn, friendly farm animals are waiting to pop out and surprise your little one. Try and guess who they are; tap the doors to find out! Its a simple guessing game for the kids that helps them recognize the animals who stay on the farm and the noise they make Children will love opening the barn doors. What I absolute love is the New Multiple Language Features! Press the Language button on the Options screen to try them out. You can teach your child names of animals in multiple languages

2. The Zoo Train:  This one is one of the best apps of 2011 at the Parents Choice Award  and a hit app for preschoolers! A fun & educational bundle of games for toddlers and preschoolers featuring two kid favorites: animals and trains! Kids enjoy learning as they play the 5 different games plus a bonus sticker activity. . What it features: 5 games teach alphabet & letters, word construction, musical scale & note recognition, matching patterns & recognizing shapes. A reward-based sticker activity to keep kids motivated as they learn. Its actually one thing I always look forward to in apps.
3. Wheels of the Bus: Rated as one of the best apps for kids by the New York times and one of the first rhymes that our kids actually learn and this app created by parents,  is a fun, interactive musical book where the kids can open and close the doors, swish the wipers, pop some bubbles, make a dog bark, and much more!It helps in encouraging cognitive, language, and motor development all at the same time. The song is available in English, Spanish, French, German, and Italian. You could also record your children’s singing and hear the music played on a violin, cello, piano, and even a kazoo.

4. Fish School: This is such a fun app and its worth every dollar as the child uses it for a long time. It includes letters, numbers, shapes, colors, matching, and more! Children will love to learn while playing with colorful schools of fish which magically transform themselves into different letters, numbers, shapes, colors and more. Fish School includes 8 fun educational activities that will engage children:
