Does your child find it difficult to concentrate in class? Are you looking to help your child pay attention in school? Well, then you should probably understand that it’s normal and happens to almost every kid in the world.

However, you, as a parent, can help them overcome that barrier quite easily by following these tried and tested tips. In this regard, here are the top 5 tips that you may want to consider to improve the concentration level of your kids.

1. Engage them in physical activities

Children who keep themselves busy with physical activities (within limits) develop a strong sense of concentration during the course of time. Physical activities such as running, jumping, cycling etc. pump more blood into their brain and helps them to remain more focused than the kids who love to sit still.

2. Help them understand the task

Tiny little brains can be more functional provided you help them understand the task better. A better understanding creates more interest in them and they keep trying till they are successful. For example, tell them how to collect blocks of same colours from a set of other colours through an initial demo instead of expecting them to do so only with verbal instructions.

3. Appreciate their little yet big wins

Everyone loves rewards and appreciation. Appreciate your kid when he/she completes a task, no matter how big or small the task is. It makes them feel special and they tend to put more of their focus and energy the next time. For example, divide any bigger task into smaller ones and appreciate every time they pass these challenges. It will further direct their brain to give their 100% effort for achieving future milestones.

4. Isolate them from distractions

By distraction, I mean gadgets such as mobile phones and PlayStations. These turn them into couch potatoes and they are less likely to do physical activities. According to a study by Common Sense Media, 38% of children under the age of 2 years, have used a mobile device for playing games, watching videos or other media-related purposes. In 2011, only 10% had. This exposure causes early developmental harm in terms of building their concentration power and also affects their communication pattern. It is desirable that you make the kids fall in love with storybooks instead of the gadgets. Also, encourage them to sweat on the field rather than wasting their time and energy on computer games.

5. Give their brain sufficient rest and nutrition

A tired brain can barely focus on any task effectively. Therefore, allow them sufficient sleep for at least 8-9 hours per day so that they can perform at their best level. Their body and mind require more rest than adults. Let’s not forget nutrition. Nutrition matters a lot for their brain to develop. Avoid junk foods and serve them with freshly prepared foods filled with vital nutrients and vitamins such as spinach salads, omelettes, fruits, juices etc.

Lastly, don’t make them feel a part of any race as that might cause them to underperform in pressure. Instead, encourage them to perform independently which will get them to put in more organic efforts.
