Pregnancy was for sure a blissful experience for me (leave apart the labour pain of course)! The attention, pampering, and oh, the maternity wear collection- I loved them all! I was to have my delivery in Bengaluru, but things turned out otherwise later on and it was decided that Chennai was where I would deliver. Born and brought up in Bengaluru, little did I know which hospital or doctor to consult. Of course, feedback from friends helped but like any other to-be-mommy, I was anxious about the new city and the new doctor. So, I jotted down the list of things I must watch out while choosing my gynaecologist and trust me it worked like magic!
So, if you are in a new city and wondering how to choose the right doctor for a safe and sound delivery, these pointers will help you make the right decision.

1. Good Reputation

Any day, someone you know and are familiar with helps. They would be familiar with your medical history, your preferences and other aspects. Consult friends, families and other known people to find out their experience with the doctor. This will not only help you make a decision but will also boost your confidence.

It is impossible for you to travel a long distance when you are in labour. Keep this in mind while choosing your doctor and hospital. Make sure your hospital is no more than 5 km from home. Also, pick a hospital which has all the required facilities in their maternity ward.
3. Your Comfort

It is utmost important that you are comfortable with your doctor. From sharing your emotional concerns to addressing your physical problems, you must feel comfortable to open up to your doctor. After all, you are bringing in a new life into the world with their help and it is most important that you and your little one are happy.

Hospitals these days have a whole lot of benefits for pregnant mothers. That said, it is important you check the price before you take the plunge. Remember you have nine months to sail through which also means you will be spending as much on your routine checkups and the delivery itself. So, access your finance and insurance well in advance.
5. Easy Availability

While it is important to choose a reputed doctor, remember the fact that your doctor needs to be easily available too. Be it addressing petty concerns, dropping in without an appointment or guiding you while in labour, it is the gynaecologist’s duty to ensure that his/her patient is taken care of. So choose someone who is warm, understanding and easily approachable.
So, make sure you access these factors before you pick your gynaecologist and have a happy and safe delivery!
