5 Ways To Embrace Motherhood – Chaos, Mess, Sleeplessness And All!

While every woman rejoices the moment she realises she is going to be a mother, she also gets paranoid thinking about her life after the baby.This is because motherhood brings with its share of ups and downs which include sleepless nights, messy house, soiled diapers and what not. But motherhood is not the end, rather it is the beginning of a new chapter in a woman’s life. To embrace motherhood we need to let go of certain things in life, in order to make space for the new emotions and tasks associated with motherhood. Be comfortable in your own skin – Many new mothers do not feel good about their post-baby body. Grab the moment – I have heard from many moms, rather I did this myself also – Whenever I wanted to do something, I would say to myself not now, let me take care of the baby, I’ll probably do this later.

Ask any mother about her journey, and probably the answer you will get from most moms is that – ‘Motherhood is not easy’. While every woman rejoices the moment she realises she is going to be a mother, she also gets paranoid thinking about her life after the baby.This is because motherhood brings with its share of ups and downs which include sleepless nights, messy house, soiled diapers and what not. A new baby in the house is an additional responsibility and many new mothers find it difficult to settle into their new routine. Many women often see it as an end, that now their lives would be confined to one room only, wherein they will just be preoccupied with the little one, having little or no time for themselves.

But motherhood is not the end, rather it is the beginning of a new chapter in a woman’s life. Of course, it does take some time away from you, but all in a good sense.

Motherhood is often messy, it is not the same as seen in postcards.It is an eventful and glorious chapter in a woman’s life. We cannot have flawless children and an easy life.

To embrace motherhood we need to let go of certain things in life, in order to make space for the new emotions and tasks associated with motherhood.

Here are some tips which are sure to help you embrace motherhood:

1. Acceptance – Yes, this is the very first step in embracing motherhood. Accept that you are a mother now. Things will not be entirely same as they used to be before. While it might seem to be a little difficult initially, but the new activities and routine will seamlessly integrate and become the new norm.

2. Be comfortable in your own skin – Many new mothers do not feel good about their post-baby body. They often shy away and avoid going out and talking and communicating with anyone. Postpartum body weight will be there for some time. But it is not here to stay. Remember one thing, be confident in whatever you wear and the most important thing here is to be comfortable!

3. Career– Do not worry about your career at the moment. Yes, it is important, but for now, the baby needs you. Take a break, maternity leave and enjoy this special time with your baby.

4. Fitness – Fitness is important. But just like career, give yourself a break from the gym for some time, till your body has healed from pregnancy and labour. Remember your body created that little human being in a time span of nine months. It is not going to shrink down in a day or two. You have to be really patient and kind to your body.

5. Grab the moment – I have heard from many moms, rather I did this myself also – Whenever I wanted to do something, I would say to myself not now, let me take care of the baby, I’ll probably do this later. But trust me that time rarely comes, so just seize the moment and don’t hold yourself back. If you feel like eating a cake, it is not necessary to make a very nice cake with a beautiful frosting – Go grab that coffee mug and make yourself a mug cake. Enjoy the moment, because you might regret not doing it later.

Motherhood is a journey of faith, joy and personal transformation. Embracing it is very important, so that we have healthy mindful kids who grow up to be better human beings. It does not mark the end of life, rather it is a milestone.
