We all have at some point either known or know of someone in need of an organ transplant. The tribulations involved are exhausting & at points extremely frustrating.

Anita Kulkarni Puranik, CEO & Founder of Metamagics, was faced with a similar situation when her husband was diagnosed with liver sclerosis. It took them 5 years to find a donor and Anita & her family thought that now this would be the end of this difficult journey. The post care of a transplant patient is life-long. They need to be constantly monitored and it was a challenge for everyone involved.

A few months later, her husband faced organ rejection and that threw up an obstacle about the further course of treatment. She was able to provide the doctors with past teatement information promptly since she had documented everything and that helped save his life.

The more she dwelled on it the more she became convinced that there had to be another solution. Instead of leafing through 6 years worth of paperwork & test reports, was there a way to make it easier for everyone using technology? That’s when she along with Atul Saraf started aggressively working on finding a solution to tie it all together so that the process could become easier for everyone – the patient, the caregiver, the doctors and the transplant centre.

Waiting lists are long and it could take a few months or even years before you can find the right match. GridSense – a data analytics platform by Metamagics – was born out of Anita’s understanding of what organ transplant patients faced and needed.

This transplant care app allows patients to be connected to care coordinators, get alerts & upload data if they are feeling unwell. This can help avert a crisis with timely intervention.

It’s a question of saving lives & the recognition that we have got from top surgeons in the country helps to strengthen our own belief and resolve, she says.

This endeavour helped Metamagics Computing to be a part of the Apple Entrepreneur Camp.  In its first year alone, Apple Entrepreneur Camp welcomed 100 participants from 13 different countries representing 42 female-led app companies.

The Apple Entrepreneur Camp offers developers a hands-on technology lab, one-on-one code-level guidance from Apple experts and engineers on their app, well as mentorship, inspiration and insights from top Apple leaders.

Mansi Zaveri, founder of Kidsstoppress spoke to Anita Kulkarni Puranik about her journey & the way forward.

She was super excited about the being part of this initiative especially since Apple has a whole ecosystem around health that tracks and integrates everything from a subscriber’s fitness levels, medical record, health care packages etc. The Apple Health App had already done the hard work of integrating their health services with 5000+ hospitals & vendors. This kind of connectivity would not have been possible for Metamagics otherwise.

We asked her what prompted her to apply and she said

For vendors like us, it bridges the last mile connectivity. We cannot connect with 500 different hospitals at our level and Apple has already done that, making it simpler for us.

The Apple E Camp also helped them to “talk to the best of the best talent about new technology and the vision about healthcare across the globe”.
