The travel plans are being sketched and locations zeroed in on. Packing for a holiday with kids isn’t easy, as any parent will know. From the smallest toys to the iPad with charger, I make sure I carry them all to entertain my little on in the flight. Of course, the easiest option would be if they slept during the entire duration, but no, kids don’t make life that easier for us! After a small nap and kid-friendly snacks to nibble on during travel, the little minds need entertainment. For uninterrupted storytelling- Bulbul App

Bulbul is a popular storytelling app for preschoolers and toddlers. The app is free to download on iOS and Android, and a lot of stories are free, except for some of them- where the user has to pay a very small amount to access the book. You can enter the world of stories ranging from rhymes, Princess stories, folktales to even Indian mythology. Just click on a story you want, and you have an option to either download the book for offline reading or watch the video along with your kids. Colouring sheets + Watch them come alive- Smartivity

Just colour the sheets, scan them and watch the animal comes to life, and your child has fun playing with it. Smartivity has STEM-based learning toys, colouring sheets and puzzles for kids starting from 3 years onwards. You can order the kits from their website and Amazon. The colouring kit we tried includes the theme based-colouring sheets, a set of 12 sketch pens and some additional sheets- like what do you want your child to be when they grow up they can choose the profession, colour the sheet and enjoy some role-play on the app! Learn a new language before you land- Gus on the Go

With the Gus on the Go app, your child gets to select the language they desire to learn and then will have to select a story from the list available. Once that’s done, the characters in the story are introduced one by one and the language learning begins here, in the form of simple sentences and character description. as the story progresses, the friendly owl, Gus teaches your kids new words and when you are finally done with the story, your child can enjoy some fun time with the built-in game. If you are travelling with an infant- this app is super helpful. An app that claims to be “the app that puts the world to sleep”. The relaxing sounds help you fall asleep in a cyclical sleep pattern. You don’t have to worry about your screen light being turned on through the night next to your baby as this app is designed to run even when the screen is dark or while the device is locked. The various sounds and the mixing options with timer options will help your child get a good night’s sleep.

Compose & Learn Music- Tune Train

How great would it be if your kids can learn music as a game- with all the fun elements? Tune Train does just that. Educate & Entertain-Thinkrolls & Thinkrolls 2

The app works with the underlying principle of “think before you roll”. With varying levels, the user can choose their characters (which are amazingly cute and 22 in total!) and help each of them cross the maze- it’s that simple. But they would have to clear the path needed to exit the maze using basic problem-solving and physics principles like buoyancy, gravity, friction, etc. With the increasing fan base and response to this, the makers have also come up with Thinkrolls 2, that won the Google Play Award for Best Family App. With 135 levels for children under 5 years and 135 levels for kids from 5-9 years, this app is a sure win for the kids! (Read our complete review here).

math app for kids

A Scrabble-like game that helps you build math equations in a crossword-like style. In other words, picture a Scrabble board with numbers instead of letters! The best part about the app is that it gets your kids to think while framing the equations and in turn, hone their math skills even when on a holiday.
