We all know just how necessary it is to help our kids work on developing those muscles in their fingers. Developing your child’s motor skills results in a better grip and strength, improved wrist movement and in turn helps them when they start with writing. If you’ve been looking for easy, simple activities that will help your child develop their fine motor skills then you need to look no further.

We, at KSP have put together a list of activities that are ideal for fine-tuning your preschooler‘s motor skills. Also, with the supplies easily available at home, these activities will keep your little ones entertained and busy for a while!

Pompom Sorting

Materials

  • Pompoms
  • Coloured bowls
  • Clothespin

Method

  • Have your child sort out the different coloured pompoms using a clothespin into the corresponding coloured bowls. This exercise helps with colour identification and strengthens the grip of your child.

Straw Beading

Materials

  • Straws
  • Wool

Method

  • Cut straws into small pieces.
  • Have your child string them together on the wool and make a necklace. A great way form them to use their finger muscles and build their concentration.

U-pin Chain

Materials

  • A box of U pins

Method

  • Help your child intertwine the U pins and make a chain out of it. They’ll love it and their fingers will be happy with the workout.

Rubber band

Materials

  • A pack of rubber bands
  • A glass/bottle/paper tube/any cylindrical object

Method

  • This one is easy and so cool. Get your child to stretch the rubber bands and put it around the object. The objective is to put as many rubber bands as possible to work on those fine motor skills.

Pulses Sorting

Materials

  • Any two/ three kinds of pulses like channa and rajma
  • Bowls

Method

  • Mix the different pulses in a bowl. Give your child different bowls and ask them to sort the pulses. It’s a great way to work on the size sorting and colour coordinating skills of your child.
