In these tough times, enhancing the body’s natural defence system (immunity) plays an important role in maintaining our health.

Ajwain is used in traditional medicine practices, such as Ayurveda, in herbal blends in the belief it can treat various disorders and boost immunity.

Ajwain, or carom seeds, are very common in Indian households. These tiny aromatic seeds are used to add flavour to a number of desi drinks, curries and parathas.

But not a lot of people know about ajwain leaves. The leaves of this plant are the real stars.

This tried & tested home remedy is my go-to when we have a sore throat. All you have to do is try this. With everyone feeling that itchy feeling in their throat one really works like magic.

Ok, let me tell you how I use these leaves in different ways

  1. Boil it and have the water when just about lukewarm with honey. ( Remember adding honey to hot boiling water is the WORST you can do to honey and yourself ) Honey loses all its medicinal properties when heated or added to hot substances .
  2. Add this to the rest of your kadha recipe. I’m sure every house has a version that works for them by now.
  3. Add it to your steam inhalations
  4. You can grind it on a mortar & pestle and use the paste along with honey to eat .
  5. Use the water boiled with ajwain lead to drink through the day, in your kadha recipes, porridge preps or just about anything you make.

Caution. It can be heaty so do not overuse it. If you don’t have the plant which I am sure a lot of you may not, just beg, borrow or buy from a local nursery.

It is important to concentrate on building immunity and what’s better if we can do so by using ingredients that are always available in our environment.
