Delhi tops as one of the most polluted cities in the world and bringing up my two kids in this city has been a big challenge. Couple that with the constant seasonal changes and they are reeling with cold, cough and sniffles almost year round. When my child is unwell it throws the entire working balance of my household out of gear, and I’m sure most of you agree with me on this one. We just can’t bear to see them sitting around listlessly if they are unwell nor can we get anything done at home with a sick, clingy little one.

As parents we know that preventing children from falling ill is an almost-impossible task, however, we can make sure that they remain healthy and free from serious ailments. Raising the immunity of our kids is extremely important.

Why Is Immunity Important?

Immunity is your body’s ability to resist infection and fight back. With kids, their immunity systems are still at the developing stage and it needs to be looked after very carefully. Kids need to eat things which will help boost their immunity levels naturally. If they are constantly falling ill, it will hamper their overall mental and physical growth and development.

Boosting Their Immunity

I feel that boosting our children’s immunity levels is a 24×7 process. We need to be on top of things through the year and not only when the weather changes. Did you know that sleep deprivation can also adversely affect your child’s immune system? A new-born may need up to 18 hours of crib time a day, toddlers require 12 to 13 hours, and pre-schoolers need between 8 – 10 hours of good sleep.

  • Children need 8-10 hours of sleep every day. Adequate sleep is essential for their growth, learning, mood and creativity. Did you know that experts suggest unplugging all electronics in the room since these could be interfering with your child’s sleep patterns? (Yours’ also actually!)
  • Remedies like giving the kids ginger juice, kesar milk and amla have been around for centuries – Our grandmothers knew the benefits of these and we should a page out of their experiences. All three are excellent options to help with a cough, cold and the flu.
  • Fruits and vegetables are included in our meal plan every day. However, this doesn’t really appeal to most kids and it’s quite a challenge getting them to finish their bowl of veggies every day. If your child isn’t too keen on eating fruits as a whole, make it interesting by turning it into a fruit salsa and add cinnamon chips to go with it. It will become their favourite snack soon.
  • Include curd in your child’s diet. The good old ‘dahi‘ contains probiotics which keep the gut healthy and also protects your kids against infections.
  • Keep your kids away from too much of sugar. Have you noticed how your child falls ill most often after a birthday party? It’s because sugar lowers their body’s natural defences. Kids tend to overdose on all the sugary things – cake, juices, sweets etc. Give them Vitamin C doses for a few days, before they’re due to attend a birthday party.

So on my journey to find immunity boosting options for my kids I came across ActivKids Immuno Boosters. Cipla has recently launched a bite-sized chocolate for kids that will help boost their immunity. Knowing that kids just can’t resist chocolates, they decided to fill up this little piece with 100% RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance) of immunity building nutrients.

Vitamin A; Vitamin B; Vitamin B2; Vitamin B3; Vitamin B6; Vitamin B9; Vitamin B12; Vitamin C; Vitamin D3; Zinc; Iron

11 vitamins and mineral have been added to ActivKids Immuno Boost to support your child’s immunity system. Each one of these has a specific role and is very important, from maintaining healthy bone formation, eyesight, their immune responses to their digestive systems.

The Immuno Boosters help in the formation of immune cells and protects the body cells from damage. Each choco-bite contributes to less than 1% calorie from sugar of the total daily energy requirement so you don’t need to be worried about cavities or high sugar intake. This was a complete package as far as I was concerned.

So off to the chemist we went to buy a box of ActivKids Immuno Boosters. My kids have been having one piece of this immunity chocolate every day, and as a parent, I have observed that not only do they like their fun bite every day, but I have definitely seen a positive impact on their immunity levels. Goodbye to the sniffles which plagued them a bit too often.

Strengthen Your Child’s Health

  • The best stimulant for their immune system is love and attention. Children need to be held, hugged, touched and kissed regularly. Positive thoughts stimulate the immune system. I think that’s something that we should apply to our adult lives too.
  • Personal hygiene is very important, so drill it into them. They need to wash their hands with soap when they go to the bathroom and when they have been outside to play. Germs can spread through contact and stress your child’s immune system.
  • Exercise is extremely important to keep the mind and body healthy – let them run outside and breathe some fresh air. Sitting inside and breathing re-circulated air is just not healthy.
  • Load you grocery carts with nutrition-rich food – oranges, mangoes, broccoli, spinach, nuts and beans are excellent options.
  • Make sure they get enough sleep. The body needs time to recuperate from the day’s activities. We want them up and kicking ready to handle the new day.
  • Keep them away from smoke. Passive smoking is dangerous for their health. Their respiratory systems are not developed to handle such toxic intrusions.
