It is official. Parts of India are facing a severe water shortage and drought-like conditions this season. It is our duty as parents to make our children realize the importance of conserving water on a daily basis.
Start by telling them about the situation and give them a clear picture of how the water shortage is affecting farmers in villages. Then ask them to tell you a few ways they would like to save water. This could be a good family activity too.
Here we tell you five ways to save water on a daily basis so that you can lead by example for your kids.
Turn taps off
Turn off taps while brushing your teeth and fill a glass of water for rinsing instead of letting the tap run.
Play leak detective
Encourage your child to check all the taps in the house for any leaks and bring it to your notice for immediate action.
Bathe with a bucket
Ditch the shower this summer and use a bucket to take a bath. A bucket will help you cut down on water usage by 80%.
Recycle water
Collect rain water, unused water left from water bottles, and water leaking out of air conditioners to water the plants.
Limit the use of utensils
Assign one glass or bottle for every family member to limit the number of glasses to be washed. Or try this. Assign a different coloured cup for each member of the family. Then stick a small magnet to the side and stick it on your refrigerator. Now your family can use their cup to drink water and put it back on the fridge! Genius!
