Being a parent is an overwhelming journey and one filled with peaks and falls. Any parent will testify to that. As parents we feel an enormous responsibility to raise our child within certain parameters: successful, kind, educated, rich. Towards this endeavour we unconsciously pass on our emotional legacies, unresolved needs, unmet expectations and frustrated dreams in the hope that our children will fulfill each and every one of them. And that’s where ‘The Conscious Parent’ book comes in.

What The Book Is About:

The author, Dr Tsabary chooses to differ. The essence of this book is to remind us that children are born to us to create a deep internal transformation within us. By giving birth and bringing up children we, as parents, undergo a tremendous transformation and we are exposed to our own failings and emotional immaturity. To successfully meet that goal, Dr Tsabary advises us to set aside traditional parenting strategies of control and mind-games, emotional blackmail (something we are all guilty of resorting to at some point or the other) and to find out what our children really want to tell us by tuning into their very being.

What I Learnt From The Book:

Around 10 years ago when I grabbed a copy of Conscious Parenting by Dr Shefali, the book made me sit up and take notice. It was the nascent stage of my launching Kidsstoppress.com. And amidst all the chaos and noise surrounding today’s parents, Dr. Shefali had spoken her heart out in a book that made us rethink how we are raising our children.

This book is an eye-opening read and doesn’t become pedantic because it employs practical, hands-on examples from Dr. Tsabary’s own life experiences. It was featured on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday and Lifeclass and has been on the New York Times Bestseller list. Born in Mumbai, Dr Tsabary is the author of multiple books. She is also a clinical psychologist and an international speaker who seamlessly integrates eastern practices with western sympathies learning all the time from both spheres.

And years later, after a sustained effort, it was my delight and absolute honour as she did an interview for the very first time for a media house in the Indian subcontinent, and it has to be with- Kidsstoppress.com!
