Book Review: Make A Difference By Just Changing The Way You Parent

By giving birth and bringing up children we, as parents, undergo a tremendous transformation and we are exposed to our own failings and emotional immaturity. To successfully meet that goal, Dr Tsabary advises us to set aside traditional parenting strategies of control and mind-games, emotional blackmail (something we are all guilty of resorting to at some point or the other) and to find out what our children really want to tell us by tuning into their very being.

Being a parent is an overwhelming journey and one filled with peaks and falls. Any parent will testify to that. As parents we feel an enormous responsibility to raise our child within certain parameters — successful, kind, educated, rich. Towards this endeavour we unconsciously pass on our emotional legacies, unresolved needs, unmet expectations and frustrated dreams in the hope that our children will fulfill each and every one of them.

This book is a eye-opening read and doesn’t become pedantic because it employs practical, hands-on examples from Dr. Tsabary’s own life experiences. It was featured on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday and Lifeclass and has been on the New York Times Bestseller list. Born in Mumbai, Dr Tsabary is the author of multiple books. She is also a clinical psychologist and an international speaker who seamlessly integrates eastern practices with western sympathies learning all the time from both spheres.
