Jump into reading through a Duckbill hOle, is what the back cover of the book states with quite a literal hOle that you will fall straight into from the first page. The hOle series has 4 interesting books for young readers and has a simple yet captivating story with charming illustrations. Priced at Rs.125 each, these books are also quite affordable and apt for young readers who have just learnt to fly and escape into the world of fiction.

The hOle books provide enough impetus and reason to go on to the young readers who are growing to be independent readers.  “When children begin to read independently, they need interesting stories but with a relatively simple vocabulary and of a short length,â€_x009d_ says Sayoni Basu of Duckbill. The hOle books are written with these criteria in mind (all are less than 80 pages).
The first of the four books that caught our attention is The Monster Hunters.
Two little monsters themselves, Abhay and Nitya are out to hunt all the scary and creepy creatures that live under children’s beds. What starts off as a school project soon turns into an adventurous day as the two best friends go hunting for the demons. Although their efforts were futile as far as the demons were concerned, the two kids find an innovative way to complete their project as well as get acclaimed for it.

The two central characters are like the typical innocent devils who somehow land up in some trouble or the other, but that’s what keeps young readers going right? The simple language along with a perfect mix of adventure and thrill in the story enhances ones imagination to high levels.

  • Not typically Indian
  • Rides on emotions of a young mind like fear, curiosity, adventure, naughtiness and the spirit to try.
  • The hole on the top right corner of the book is just too innovative and eye catching.
  • Illustrations that compliment the story
