Purple Hathi is an online stationery and home decor brand that looks to add colour and life to your homes.
The brains behind Purple Hathi:
Purple Hathi, is run by Shirali Merchant, a Boston University graduate who has experience in advertising, and her mother, Bina Merchant. When she took some time off to write a book for children (The Adventures of Zulu & the Gang: The Bully Dilemma), she also found a passion to design handmade cards for friends and birthday party invitations for their children. From the positive feedback she received, they decided to take it up a notch.
As a parent, when Shirali started looking out for fun and colourful designs in children’s stationery and nursery decor, she noticed the limited options parents had and thus started designing for her daughter and her circle of friends.
From starting with kids’ stationery, they realised their biggest market was the parents, who look to buy something for their homes as well. That’s how they stepped into the world of home decor.
My 2 year old daughter is an ideal test subject. Every time I make a new product, she and her best friend use it first. If it survives them, then it’s a go!– Shirali Merchant, on the biggest inspiration behind Purple Hathi.

In what started as a stationery brand, Purple Hathi soon branched out to home decor and they currently house nursery decor, customised wall stickers, canvas wall arts, clocks, table mat, thank you cards, gift sets, gift tags, children’s trays and study tables and colouring books as well.

There are a number of colouring books available in the market and your local neighbourhood bookstore, so we would have to watch out if these colouring books manage to standout in the market, but their stationery and decor products do create an impression.
