Summer break is here and so are long weekends. If you are travelling for Holidays then make sure you carry the mini versions of these games for hot and sunny afternoons, the long train rides and ofcourse late night game sessions. Of course there are lots of new games that have come since then but what makes these a lot of fun is unadulterated fun. There was no emphasis on learning and it was all just for the love of playing, learning to cheat some and ofcourse about bettering each time. I miss those days! These games appeal to people of all age groups and can be played with grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, building friends and even with your domestic help(incase you are a working parent). Board Games are coming back in a huge way and here is our list of childhood games we definitely want the kids to play. Funskool Snakes And Ladders, Multi Color (age 3+) : Roll the die and move those number of spaces up on the board. If you land at the base of the ladder, you get to climb up. But if you stop at the top of the ladder, you slide back down. And beware of the snakes!
Mattel Junior Scrabble Crossword Game (age 4+): Players take turns placing the tiles on letters and win points when they complete words. Kids learn spelling, reading and following rules. The Junior Scrabble is quite simple for 5 year olds so you could probably get the adult one and make simple words instead.
Funskool Connect 4 (age 7+): The first to connect four checker pieces in a row wins the game. This game teaches kids concentration, strategy and cause-effect.
Mattel – UNO original Card (age 7+): One of the most fun card games , Uno is about getting rid of all your cards despite your opponent trying to change the number or colours while playing.
Checkers (age 6+): An intelligent game for kids requiring concentration and strategy, checkers teaches kids to anticipate the opponent’s next move and play accordingly.
Othello (age 8+): Another intelligent game that involves converting the opponent’s game pieces into your team’s colour. This game involves thinking and strategic thinking.
Monopoly (age 5+): An all time favourite game for all age groups, Monopoly is a real estate game that involves capturing and making houses in as many properties as possible until the opponent is broke and cannot pay for their stay in your properties. You now also get the Indian version of Monopoly with Indian Rupees and city so you will love the game more now and it can keep the kids busy for hours together.
Life (age 9+): Another amazing kids’ board game that involves spinning the wheel and as a result determining the decisions. This game illustrated the importance decisions we make throughout our lives.
Chess Classic (age 7+): One of the classic board games on strategy and thinking, Chess is a great board game to get your child thinking!
Twister (age 6+): A fun game for kids involving spinning to get a colour and body part that you need to put on the coloured spots.
Boggle Junior Game (age 10+): A word game involving racing against time to make as many words as you can! This game involves thinking and tests the vocabulary of kids.
Jenga (age 10+): The thrill of building a tower of blocks continues to excite kids making Jenga very popular.
Guess Who (age 4+): A fun guessing game teaching kids how to organize their thoughts and ask appropriate questions.
Carrom (age 4+): Another favourite game among kids and adults alike, the aim of the game is to pocket one’s nine carrom men and Queen before your opponent.
Brainvita (Age 7+): A single player game that requires you to come down to the least amount of marbles. The games requires logical thinking and making the right moves.
Pictionary (Age 6+) : This game requires 3-4 players. Pictionary is a a game based on drawing a word that needs to be decided by rolling the die. Roll the die and move the counter on the board. Depending on the word you land on, pick up a card and draw the word for your team.
Scotland Yard (Age 10+) : Scotland Yard board game in which a team of players, as police, cooperate to track down a player controlling a criminal around a board representing the streets of London. It is named after Scotland Yard, the headquarters of London's Metropolitan Police Service.
-Taboo (Ages 7+): Taboo is a fun guessing game where players have to guess the word on the other player's card without using the word itself or five additional words listed on the card.
Scattergories: This is a creative thinking based game where players have to write words and score points by uniquely naming objects within a set of categories, given an initial letter, within a time limit.
Mikado Speil: Mikado is a fun game that is played with a bundle of sticks. Each player needs to pick up a stick after displacing the bundle on the floor. The stick needs to be picked up without touching another one. This one is all about patience and attentiveness.
