A recent survey titled “Turner’s New Generations 2016: Power To The Kids” shares an exclusive report with Kidsstoppress on what defines your child’s TV viewing habits and what today’s kids really want to watch in their free time.Turner has commissioned Nielsen to conduct the survey for their flagship research study that throws light on the TV viewing patterns, usage of internet, food habits, lifestyle habits, how well they spend their pocket money and lots more. The research was conducted on about 6000 children over the age groups 4-6 years and 7-14 years. Here is what the extensive research has to say about kids and how they handle finances. Turner’s New Generationsâ„¢ study is the largest kids’ lifestyle survey in the Asia Pacific region.

Today’s generation kids (born between 1997- 2015+) are defined as “plurals” and are known to be very clear in their own choices, world awareness, standing for gender equality and adept at managing finances.

Money Matters: 

When parents of kids aged 4-14 were asked if they give their children monthly allowances, the answer was a convincing yes. Around 52% kids (among the 3000+ children surveyed) receive pocket money and the average pocket money allowance was Rs 555 a month.

Festive occasions in India are another time when parents like to gift their kids and grandchildren money. Remember how when we were kids we used to line up along with the cousins to get the blessings of our grandparents and the small little envelope with currency inside? Kids today get a lot more than what we did, the survey says. Compared to 4 years, the gift money has shot up by 41%!

Did you know that the annual spending potential of Indian children is a whopping amount of INR22,594 Crores- higher than the GDP of countries like Bhutan and Maldives?!

When these children, aged 7-14 years were asked where they like to spend their savings, the answer was varied. Clothes, shoes, food, toys were the top answers, while there wasn’t much spending on books or DVDs.
