This #WorldCancerDay, there are campaigns and events across the globe that are doing their bit to help spread the awareness about the dangerous trend in the increasing incidence of cancer among all age groups. Blame it on the changing global environment climate, our sedentary lifestyle, our stress-filled routine or the food choices- the sad truth remains that cancer has reared its ugly head and the percentage of people affected by cancer has soared over the years. What causes it all? What changes do we need to make in our lifestyle to ensure we and more importantly, the next generation isn’t affected by this deadly disease? And in the worst case where kids are diagnosed with cancer- what is the way out?

Dr Fazal explained about the lifestyle choices that we are making as parents, and where we are lacking in the process. Right from kids to adults, we need to ensure a stress-free routine that goes a long way in staying healthy, he explains. Are we listening?

He also stressed upon why early detection and screening for cancer, in both children and adults goes a long way in the treatment process. He also explained the warning signs parents should look out for and when they must head to the paediatrician immediately.

Dr Fazal also reiterated why parents must insist on healthy food choices for children. Teach them to stay away from junk or at least reduce the consumption of packaged foods, and those that contain artificial colours and additives. Go natural and o0pt for healthy home-cooked meals, he insists.

He also explained why chemotherapy needn’t always result in undesired side-effects in children and how early detection and the right course of treatment has ensured a healthy future for many kids.
