As a new parent if you are looking at building your child’s library whose just turned one and will now start his routine eye and dental check ups and will slowly start interacting with a lot of new faces then it’s the perfect time to start investing in First Experience books. First experience books are a great idea to expose your kids to an unknown environment to familiarize them with what to expect and to ease them into the process of a checkup or a camping trip.

Kids love stories and they love to hear them being read out. The stories also provide a basis for them to understand the world around them and how it works. Stories also help kids in many emotional ways to understand the implications of the way they behave and also reassure them in various ways. Books also help the child deal with their ‘firsts’ first day of school, first time they cut their hair, first time you leave them alone and so forth

Kids usually take an affinity to certain characters with a  dog, bear, tortoise, pig or just kids their age. Our list of first experience books is a great guide to help you select one or all of these. I had absolutely no one to guide me through this process of picking the right books. It was all trial and error and lots of reading. If you don’t want to go shop shop at the first go and rightly so make sure you borrow a different one each time so you know which books click with you and your baby. While you area t it don’t forget to go through our List of Best books for kids ( Indian authors included) & Best books for Parents.

1. Bernstain Bears by Stan and Jan Bernstain

This is a great set of books for your kids to start out reading. Written by Stan & Jan Berenstain it’s a book about a family of bears and  how they come across many situations which are a lot of fun. A messy Room, Too Much TV, The gimmies are some of my favourites. It’s amazing because each story has a moral and learning value attached to it mixed with a fun and imaginative story line. It’s been in publication since 1962 and has sold millions of copies. It is a must have for all young kids and toddlers.
