Many parents are planning a road trip to nearby safe destinations with kids- and if you are one among them, you will find this list useful. Apps are great for learning, but it is difficult to use them as babysitting tools all day long. How about changing that and indulging in fun family games instead?
Mansi Zaveri embarked on a road trip with the kids and listed some of their favourite games together as a family.
Atlas:
You have to mention country names using the last letter of the word. Everyone goes clockwise. For example, If I say Australia, the next person in line has to mention a country with an A since it is the last letter.
Antakshari:
We used to play this growing up and love it and my kids enjoy it too. Create 2 teams and you have to sing a song. Again, the last syllable is the cue for the next song.
I SPY:
We can play this game for hours where you mention something you see outside and the kids can guess the object. It is an amazing way to test their vocabulary.
Spell Bee:
Have each child say the word, spell the word and say the word again. This is the way a spelling bee works and you should prepare them for it.
Audio Books:
Kids love stories and this is the best way to introduce stories and work on their audio skills. You can check out our exclusives on how audiobooks help your kids and a list of the best audiobooks to download for your kids.
Here are some more suggestions you can try with your kids when embarking on a road trip.
Yes/No
With just yes or no as answers the opponent has to guess the person you have in mind in less than 21 chances. It’s more difficult than you think give it a try!
Complete My Story
One person starts a line of a story, for eg. “Once upon a time, there lived a girl”, and the next person takes it up from there- and it goes on from there. The person who completes the story loses the round! A fun way to test who spins the funniest twists in the plot.
Guess The Song
One person has to hum a line from a song, not from the beginning but from somewhere in the middle. The one who guesses it first wins! Revisit some of your favourite songs with this game! You could also just tell aloud the words, instead of singing to make it more challenging!
Memory Game
Can start with say, A is for apple. The person who is next needs to say A is for Apple and B is for Books. The next person says A is for Apple, B is for Books and C is for Carrots. Sounds simpler, but as you make multiple rounds- you will realise it isn’t! Add more zing to it by saying words that aren’t so common!
This or That
A fun game to keep the little ones in the car busy. Pizza or Cake? Beaches or mountains? Peppa or Doraemon? Watch them think really hard to give the cutest answers!
One Thing You Like…
This will be a great way to bind with the kids without actually saying it out loud. Each member has to say one thing they like about the person next to them. And it goes in turns. You will be surprised and teary-eyed with the results!
