Handling a child when he/she is unwell is a challenge to any parent. Not only do you feel bad about how your child is feeling, but the added stress and discomfort of giving them their medicine is just plain painful! Even if it something as minor as a common cold or a bout of a cough, we, as parents, tend to get stressed more than the kids, and that reflects in the way we handle them.

The course of medication is the most difficult challenge and that’s something every parent agrees. Be it a syrup or a suspension or tablets for the slightly older kids- getting them to have their medicine is an ordeal and to be frank- it is something every child hates doing! This genius hack is something that will have every parent wondering why they didn’t think of this sooner!

Frozen Taste Buds Effect

Heard of the frozen taste buds effect? This mom Herchel Scruggs, a mommy blogger, figured out that if children’s tongue is cold and numb before they have their medicine, they are less likely to resist and create a ruckus. This is why this mom uses a simple popsicle to do the magic.

“I start by giving her a popsicle a couple minutes before her meds. Then I stop her mid-popsicle, give her the dose, and she finishes the ice pop”-Herchel Scruggs

Hand over a popsicle to your child and let them enjoy the taste (or rather, wait for their tongue to get cold and numb!). Stop them midway, give them their medicine and then they can resume their popsicle. How simple is that?! The popsicle helps the tongue go numb as well as acts as a comfort factor for the child that’s been given the medicine.
