I remember as a new mom I didn’t know whether I was coming or going. I remember being extremely overwhelmed and was just thankful that my meals came to me and there were people taking care of me because I knew there was no way I would be able to take care of myself and a new baby!

My mom kept giving me things to eat at regular intervals and though I wasn’t too happy with the bland, rich food that I was eating, I definitely wasn’t going to question it. It was only later that I realised how healthy all the food I was eating really was. How it all tied together to ensure the new mom gets her rest during the 40-day confinement period and how every single ingredient goes towards helping her gain her strength and vitality back postpartum. Ancient Indian food wisdom really had it all down to a science!

In our special series Grandmom’s recipes we bring you a recipe that is part of my family history. This simple laddoo goes a long way in building a new mom’s strength, and immune system, and increases breastmilk production. The laddoo has edible gum, methi powder, ghee, and a whole host of ingredients to help the new mom bounce back to her pre-pregnancy self.
