Modern-day living has made us turn to convenient steel, glass, and non-stick cookware. But don’t you feel that there is a lot more to gain from our traditional methods?

When you hear about the Ayurvedic way of life, we often think of herbs, emeralds, stones, metals and healing powders, but very few talk about the different metals in kitchen utensils.

But did you know that it is very important for pregnant women to avoid non-stick frying pans? Studies show that Perforated Compounds (PFCs), which are used to make materials resistant to oil, water, and other stains could affect a baby’s growth. Women who are exposed to high levels of PFCs give birth to smaller babies and PFCs also affect how a child metabolizes fat.

Also, did you know that aluminium should be avoided for kids?

We are always on the lookout for our kids – making sure that they eat well with nutritious food in their systems. However studies suggest that cooking and serving food in aluminium cookware hampers the child’s IQ. Experts suggest that when food comes in contact with aluminium, harmful agents find their way to enter your body. This can harm a child’s mental health as well as their IQ.

So how can we transform our kitchen with utensils that are good for us and our li’l ones? We should start by avoiding plastic, aluminium and non-stick utensils – as suggested by celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar
