Being a woman ain't easy. For the longest time women have been using nothing but a cloth during those days of a month.â_x0081_£Those of us who have been fortunate enough have been using pads and tampons. But even with these, there's always a possibility of leaks and stains. It was always a constant worry for me to keep checking my clothes for stains. Don't we all do that? Ask a friend or a sister if everything's all clear there? Or check our behinds every time we get up or sit down?â_x0081_£

Well, it's not a worry for me anymore! Thank God for menstrual cups. And thank God again that I am living in an era of change. I know most women in rural India still don't have access to a basic pad, but things are changing thanks to awareness created by movies like Padman, Period. End of sentence, Women welfare NGOs, Social activists and many others working at the grass-root level. â_x0081_£

I am writing this for those women who have been using pads and tampons for the longest time and are still looking for a better option during periods. Our prayers have been answered, ladies. The answer is the menstrual cup. Look no further and beyond.â_x0081_£

A Few Facts About A Menstrual Cup: â_x0081_£
â_x0081_£
âž¡ï¸_x008f_ Did you know that they have actually been around since 1860? But those were not so easy to wear and so didn't become popular. But now thanks to new silicone material and social media, they have become mainstream.â_x0081_£
âž¡ï¸_x008f_ Its a suction cup which you have to insert inside. Its made of hospital-grade silicone or latex and is reusable and recyclable. One cup can last you for years.â_x0081_£
âž¡ï¸_x008f_ As they are reusable, you end up saving money on your monthly buys.â_x0081_£
âž¡ï¸_x008f_ They are environment friendly too being recyclable â_x0081_£
âž¡ï¸_x008f_ Most of all, they are safe for women to use. Safer than pads and tampons as no harmful chemicals are used in them. Pads use these chemicals for absorbing and quick drying the menstrual blood and same goes for tampons. But because of the way you use a tampon, it goes inside, a tampon not only absorbs the menstrual blood but also other healthy microbial vaginal fluid causing an imbalance in pH and dryness and itching.

âž¡ï¸_x008f_ A menstrual cup lasts way longer than a pad or tampons. Up to 8-10 hours and absorb a lot more blood

Here Are My Personal Thoughts On Using A Cup

âž¡ï¸_x008f_ I have one word for my experience – "LIBERATING"
âž¡ï¸_x008f_ Yes! It wasn't very easy and comfortable at the beginning but like all things, it gets better with practice. I have been using it for more than 1.5 years now and have started loving it.
âž¡ï¸_x008f_ It's like literally non-existent and you don't feel it in there at all! I sometimes forget I am on my period using it.
âž¡ï¸_x008f_ I've never slept better without worrying about stains and leaks at night
âž¡ï¸_x008f_ Earlier, I used to put my life on a hold when on period. No gym, no travel, no holidaying, no swimming. Well, not anymore! It's a non-issue now.

The Down Side

The one downside for me is the cleaning part of it. It gets somewhat messy and gross. But after changing so many diapers and cleaning poop & pee & whatnot, it's not that bad after all. It's your own blood after all. Just gotta give some time to get used to it. It's a learning curve which gets better with time.

So this is my story. I have cupverted and loving it. You will find a lot of information about menstrual cups on the internet. About the different brands, their make, their fit, their sizes. Read well, make-up your mind, and give it a try.  I have a feeling you won't regret it. Thank me later

P.S. – I've been using the Diva cup.
