Children are influenced by their surroundings and good habits that begin at an early age especially considering they develop habits by the age of 8 – 9 years. 

Kids look up to their parents and family in inheriting all the good and bad habits. So rather than giving them examples we should be more prompt in doing the same thing in our daily life because kids follow what they see not what we tell them.

Here are 6 habits that you can get your munchkins to begin with and it can help them in the long run 

Eating the fruit Vs drinking juice – Eating a fruit than drinking its juice is a huge game changer in many ways – more fibre, more chewing means brain health and fewer calories and side effects of the natural sugar – fructose. 

Playing outdoors – Since the pandemic lockdown many of us have become hypochondriacs and also lazy which has rubbed on our children. A good way to get you and your little one off the couch is to play a sport together or take them for a picnic outdoors and get them some activity. These habits and memories remain with them and make them more adventurous and fit than being couch potatoes and gadget addicts. 

Conserving resources and understanding portion sizes – Both go hand in glove. Teach them to be mindful about saving water, paper and money and understanding how to learn portion control in food. Ordering just the right amount to save money and not overeating can be very helpful to maintain weight and a balanced lifestyle for life.

Whether it is water or electricity, let your child learn to save these precious resources by communicating that both needs to be saved as they are natural and manmade resources and life would be very difficult without them. 

Routines, time management and eating timings Routines are very important to manage time and eating habits. Once the body clock adapts to early dinner and fixed eating timings it becomes engraved in the mind and body. Early dinners help maintain body weight and can prevent diseases from a younger age.

Today our children have juvenile diabetes, insulin resistance, PCOS, thyroid, eczema, anxiety, low moods, poor brain development, brain fog and respiratory illnesses due to lifestyle and bad food habits. Start them young and you can save a lot of synthetic medications going down their throat from cough syrups to horrible jumbo pills.

Active lifestyle through functional living – Just getting in an hour’s workout is not enough! Teach them how to fold clothes, make their beds, wash their clothes, serve and help lay the table, help when their friends are over and offer water to guests, pack their travel bags and take their pet for a walk.

So many chores can be done without making them feel like a chore, it’s functional living. These habits last a lifetime and make life simpler and happier and less frustrating. Start them young it’s never too late.
