Here’s How Adele Helped Reinvent The Missing ‘Me’ In My Motherhood Journey

Why I Love These Award ShowsWhat I love about these award shows-Grammys or The Oscars, is that each artist whether performing or giving an acceptance speech always has a powerful message to put across. The obvious message these awards put forth to my kids is that these insanely famous celebrities have so much respect for their fellow artists, for the fraternity and for their art and they come across as shining stars in the eyes of the bedazzled crowd watching them. As a true-blooded music lover, I missed what I look forward to watching every year live with my children – The Grammys. Luckily, we did view the re-run of the same.  And this year two of my most favourite singers stole the show-Beyonce and Adele.

Beyonce performing in all glory with the wondrous baby bump was a sight to behold!

Why I Love These Award Shows

What I love about these award shows-Grammys or The Oscars, is that each artist whether performing or giving an acceptance speech always has a powerful message to put across. They realise the hold they have as reigning artists and celebrities over their audience and they use the platform to get the message across.

The obvious message these awards put forth to my kids is that these insanely famous celebrities have so much respect for their fellow artists, for the fraternity and for their art and they come across as shining stars in the eyes of the bedazzled crowd watching them.

Beyonce showed us a powerful way she used her art to glorify motherhood, to document the beauty of her race, to be humble about where she comes from, and that no matter how far she has gotten and where she comes from will always mean a lot to her. She said this one line that struck a chord with one and all.

Your mother is a woman and women like her can’t be contained.

Alongside Beyonce, Adele was nominated too. During her acceptance speech, she shared her spotlight and called out on her idol Beyonce, acknowledging as a fellow artist, her magnificence and the effect Beyonce’s art had on her life as an early artist.

The world needs more of us women, who build each other up, forming a community that keeps it real, for our own selves and each other.

Another powerful statement was Adele’s admission of what motherhood was like. “I lost a lot of myself when I became a motherâ€_x009d_.

This is not something many of us would admit aloud, a feeling that we all neglect. An admission that the joys of motherhood can be lost in the process of losing one’s identity and the need to put the tiny miracle of joy before one’s every need. A show of bravado from women like these, who are idolised, helps us acknowledge the truth that we bury in the deep corners of our hearts as mothers.

The forgotten bucket list, the talents that have been put away, the career that we thought we will take up again, the courage of even thinking these words to our own selves. What will it take for us to put the guilt aside and start living? Not only as a mother, daughter,  wife but as an individual. There’s little that anyone can do to help us in this. ( I am making a list of my own while I write this out!)

But yes we could make a small difference in each other’s lives as women from the same community. Let’s put aside the competitiveness as mothers, and as individuals.

Let’s build each other up with appreciation.

Let’s make our women community our support system, to fulfil our dreams as individuals and as an entire community.
