Glass slippers, talking mice, a pumpkin carriage – any guesses which Disney princess am I talking about?

We've all grown up reading about Cinderella, her magical ball and her fairy godmother – we loved it all. This story has got a makeover quite a few times over the last few years by the way. Now the essence of this tale, about the mistreated but pure-hearted girl who gets the ultimate makeover and the classic fairy tale happily ever after is all there. But each comes with its own twist.

The new Cinderella (2021 version) is just that!

Tell Me More

Singer Camila Cabello stars as Cinderella in this musical fairy tale, which centres around an orphaned maiden who is looking not for true love but for corporate success as a dressmaker.

The film also stars Pierce Brosnan, Billy Porter, James Corden, Romesh Ranganathan, Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver, Maddie Baillio, and Charlotte Spencer.

It tells the story of Elle a.k.a Cinderella and her dreams of being a businesswoman who sells her own dresses. Like other Cinderellas, she has a stepmother, two stepsisters, mice as friends, and a beautiful dress ready for her to wear at the ball, but her dream to make and sell dresses is more important than finding a prince charming. This version has more of a girl empowerment spin.

It is full of songs and I guess for the younger generation that's what makes it watchable. After all, Camilla Cabello is a great singer. The fairy godmother by the way has got a gender swap – just warning you! There are some elements of magic and fairy dust that the kids will enjoy.

The adults I have to say have not enjoyed it much due to too many songs and take on the story not being what they wanted. But the message in the movie that we should hope our kids learn is that of is staying true to yourself and following your own path. We should all fight for our dreams no matter how small life can make us feel sometimes.
