Honest Mom Mistakes I Made In 2016 And Hope To Never See Again In 2017!

Also, I was quite “busy” this year – days when I’ve been so engrossed at work that I almost forgot to pick up my kid from school. I constantly think about this ‘how will I get work done if my kid is at home” – When other moms at my school would have preferred to keep their kids at home, I chose to send my child to school even on days she had a sore throat- just so I could get some work done. I have hidden certain events from my child, the ones that would have probably been of utmost importance to her – I would conveniently not told my daughter about the birthday party invite she had received, just because the timings clashed with my schedule, to drop and pick her up. Yes- I changed the timings to my convenience- On some weekends I made my kid skip her afternoon naps ( something I don’t allow on school days), only to ensure she hits the bed early and I could go for a late night movie with my friends. Being ruthless when it comes to house cleaning – I have thrown away my daughter’s old craft projects thinking they added to the dust when she was at school and played ignorant when she came back looking for it one fine day.

As this year comes to an end, I am reflecting on one of the most important aspects of my life. As a mom, I know no one is judging me but I can’t help but judge myself! 2016 saw me being a selfish mom, a strict mom, and sometimes even a careless mom!

One thing we all would agree is there no such thing as a “perfect mom” and at the end of the day, we are all trying hard to raise our kids. So at times when parenting a 3-year-old got a bit crazy, I found myself exhausted and the secret desire to do things quickly and take a short cut took over and I confess I did!

Ok, confession time. Here are some of the really ‘bad’ things mom did this year.

1. I have been in a great “hurry” this year –  So many times when I rushed my little girl to finish lunch after school, so she can take a nap, only to wake her up from her slumber to rush her to her after school class!

2. “I forgot” has been my favourite excuse – for that day when I forgot to send the red colour toy in her school bag and she was the only one who could not do the class activity.

3. Also, I was quite “busy” this year – days when I’ve been so engrossed at work that I almost forgot to pick up my kid from school. I realised instantly how lonely my little girl would have felt when she did not see me in the crowd of other parents at the school gate.

5. My child cannot read yet and I have taken advantage of her ignorance/inability/innocence! –  Every night during bed time reading I confess to skipping pages when my daughter is not looking or skipping one whole paragraph to speed up the bedtime ritual. Yawn!

6. I have hidden certain events from my child, the ones that would have probably been of utmost importance to her  – I would conveniently not told my daughter about the birthday party invite she had received, just because the timings clashed with my schedule, to drop and pick her up.

7. Let’s just say I lied (when it came to certain food items!) -When I did not want to share my snack with my child, I have told her it was only for ‘big people’ or it was ‘too spicy’. Wait- did I really do that?!

8. I have been a greedy mom at times – Instead of snatching the chocolate from her hand, I have asked my kid to share it with me (‘coz sharing is caring) and then eaten it faster so that I could ask for more. Yes- I like chocolates too!

9. Ignoring my child’s minute reactions thinking them to be tantrums – The time when I  forced her to gulp that green vegetable curry down her throat only to realise at the end of the meal that it was totally bleched!

10. Yes- I changed the timings to my convenience– On some weekends I made my kid skip her afternoon naps ( something I don’t allow on school days), only to ensure she hits the bed early and I could go for a late night movie with my friends.

11. On days when sleep was dearer than my child I will probably confess to my kid (later!) for packing the same old mundane dry khakras in her tiffin, just because I woke up late (after- effects of previous night’s excursion).

12. Being ruthless when it comes to house cleaning  – I have thrown away my daughter’s  old craft projects thinking they added to the dust when she was at school and played ignorant when she came back looking for it one fine day.

13. I have been unreasonably forgetful, that’s why it deserves a mention again  – Although it sounds strange but on our last holiday in the hills, I had forgotten to pack enough warm clothes for my daughter and then I blamed the baggage limit!
