If your child is asking for an Instagram account then you should be aware of all that Instagram has to offer to kids and parents. The Parental Supervision tools are super helpful and we spoke to Natasha Jog, Head of Public Policy, Instagram India on how Instagram works to keep our teens safe.
We also got great insight from Sameer Arora, VP Shiv Nadar School about a potential threat that a lot of our kids tend to ignore… the world of geotagging places they are at. The conversation is an eye-opener and a must-watch for parents whose kids are on devices.
The Instagram parental supervision settings and tools are a great way to protect our children. Instagram offers a number of parental control features to help parents manage their children’s activity on the app. These include:
- Privacy Settings: Parents can control who sees their child’s posts and account information.
- Comment Controls: Parents can restrict comments on posts or turn off comments entirely.
- Screen Time Management: Parents can set daily time limits for the app, or restrict access to the app during certain times of the day.
- Login Approvals: Parents can receive notifications when their child logs in from a new device, and approve or deny the login request.
- Restricted Mode: Parents can filter out sensitive content from the Explore tab.
- Blocking and Reporting: Parents can block or report users who are engaging in inappropriate behaviour.
It’s important for parents to have open and honest conversations with their children about their online activity and to stay informed about the apps and websites they are using.
