The rains have arrived in most parts of the country and as much as we love getting soaked to our skins there will be days indoorsIf you’ve got active children at home then the magical grey, rainy day could turn into an effort in crowd control.  So here’s a list of great indoor games the children can play while you sit back and sip some garam chai.

While it might be hard to coax active children into quiet reading time, here’s a way to channel their energies into something meaningful. Ask them to pick a story they love and act it out. They can turn it into a little skit with imaginary props or into a full-scale production in which they transform their rooms into scenes from their favourite book. Older children can make costumes, design props and even make out invitations for neighbours, family and friends to come and watch their final performance!

Toy Wash

Great for toddlers, this game doubles up as a fantastic way to clean dirty toys. Set up a “toy wash” in the bathroom, complete with a bucket of soapy suds, any type of water dispenser (like spray bottles or gardening cans) and wiping cloths. Line up plastic toys so they can in-turn, be cleaned in the “toy wash”. Get your child accustomed to the order in which toys have to be cleaned and prepare for them to be engaged for a while!

Masking Tape Games

The wonder of masking tape is its ability to turn floors into game boards.! Use masking tape to mark out an entire hopscotch grid, so your child can hop from one square to the other while learning his/her numbers. You could create a runway on the floor for paper planes, and mark each landing to see which plane flies farthest. Using masking tape to make car tracks or train tracks or imagine it to be a tightrope for balance practice is also a lot of fun. Use masking tape to create shapes at different spots in the room, and have your child hop from one shape to another while calling out its name.
