Hello!

So how’s the week treating you? Summer is up in all its glory and it’s hard to believe that we are just on the cusp of April- more hot months to bear with!

So in my child’s school, they often commemorate the birthdays of inspiring people like Sir CV Raman and Swami Vivekananda and the teacher was briefing the kids on why they were famous and their contributions to the world. And some of the kids had to share details they know and have read about these great men. And it was surprising to note that very few kids knew these details and the others confessed they hadn’t read such biographies earlier.

That gets me to the question I have for you. Do your kids read non-fiction too? Or are they too busy in the world of fantasy and fairy tales?

In this week’s recommendations, we tell you all about picture books you must get your kids that tell them all about famous people, without sounding too preachy! We have curated this list for kids of all ages, so dive straight in!

Conversation Starter Of The Week

There is no real age that you can introduce fun facts to kids. I started it very young, and you’ll be surprised how they retain matter. Their brain is like a sponge, and fun facts get them curious, and ask questions!

If you are wondering, how to get kids to know what is happening around the world, you have come to the right place – I always do that either through books or through podcasts! It is the best way to share more information with them.

In this episode of I am not bored, we are going to be talking about:

  • Electronic cars and how they work
  • How they are changing the world
  • When is India going to be friendly toward Electric cars
  • And more…

Listen to the entire podcast, and tell us if your child loves the episode.

Word Of The Week

Abient

Tending to move away from a stimulus or situation.

Usage: To avoid the discussion, he engaged in abient behaviour and that became evident.

Activity Of The Week

Went through the long list of picture books we recommended for your kids in the biography genre? Follow up reading them with this fun game!

Think of a celebrity. Your child would have to guess them in 10/20 chances. You are not allowed to describe them but only answer with a Yes/No for your child’s questions.

Eg.

Is he dead/alive

Is she a famous author?

Is she Indian?

This is one of our favourite games we play on a long road-trip. Gets the kids to think as well as pick on some know-hows along the way! Try it out!
