If you have been busy this week, with work and sharing forwards for Covid-relief, you must have probably missed this. Facebook is all set to launch a child-friendly social media platform- Instagram for Kids. Yes, you read that right!

A pre-teen feature that allows children under 13 to upload photos and videos in an ad-free environment is what is proposed by the makers of Facebook. This new feature will be similar to Messenger Kids which will offer more transparency and control to the parents, they say. But do we need this, in current times? Is resorting to social media the only way to engage and entertain kids when we are stuck indoors amidst a global pandemic?

There has been a wide uproar among US attorneys against this new feature and Facebook is yet to respond to this. Meanwhile, we asked moms on our Instagram page, what they thought about this.

This is one app, parents spend hours on. We call it our stress buster. But is the world ready for the proposed new Instagram For Kids? Agreed, kids are missing out on quality school and play time with their friends. But are we ready to succumb to societal demands and allow them to log on to a social media platform at a young age?

Do we have the bandwidth to keep a check on what is going on? Kids nowadays have a lot of exposure and year after year, cyber-bullying stats are shocking to say the least.

The makers claim the app will have the safety features intact and kids will be able to upload photos and videos within these limits. But the question remains – Is this what the world needs right now for kids?

The verdict from moms has been a unanimous NO! Here are some of the replies we received on our Instagram handle.
