For any parent, their child’s growth and development is their primary concern. Some of us are blessed with kids who eat everything put in front of them and then there are others like mine who are super fussy eaters. I understand that as kids grow their tastes change and their eating habits change but they get quite picky and that can interfere with their growth. These constant food battles can be taxing for the parent as well as the child.

Ensuring that the kids get the right blend of vitamins and nutrients is key for their mental and physical development. Experts have found that the quality of protein given to kids is directly linked to their growth and development. High-quality protein is linked to digestibility and amino acids profile.

How Is Growth Affected If High-Quality Protein Is Lacking?

Proteins are the building blocks of a healthy mind and body. This is an essential macronutrient which can affect the entire body. especially in kids. Foods with high-quality proteins provide more essential amino acids. Particular essential amino acids are important for optimum protein synthesis. The body cannot make the essential amino acids itself and therefore these must be obtained from food. These essential amino acids contribute to the mental and physical health of your child. Protein plays an essential role in many bodily functions, including building, maintaining and repairing of tissues in the muscles, skin, organs, blood, hair and nails.

If your child does not get enough protein in their diet, they could experience the following:

But with small changes, you can protect against protein deficiency. Using PDCAAS of 1 values, the WHO/FAO has ascertained how to measure the protein value in human nutrition.

What Is PDCASS of 1?

PDCASS stands for Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score

  • A product having PDCAAS of 1 value is considered the best/ideal quality source for protein.
  • PDCAAS is calculated using an amino acid profile and true digestibility of a food protein.
  • Protein quality, as determined by the PDCAAS method, is a measure of a protein’s ability to provide adequate levels of essential amino acids for human needs.

Sources Of Protein & Their PDCAAS Values:

A PDCAAS value of 1 is the highest, and 0 the lowest. The table shows the ratings of selected foods.

As a mom, I would rather give my child whole foods. But since getting them to eat a balanced diet can be difficult and is not something that my kids have without putting up a fight, I have found that giving them protein-rich drinks could be a solution in such cases. The source of protein in Pediasure is skim milk powder and the PDCAAS for skim milk powder is 1 which makes it ideal for growing children.

The right nutrition at the right stage of a child’s development life could make a huge difference. Loaded with 37 nutrients, Pediasure is trusted by paediatricians and parents. It’s made of skim milk powder that has a PDCAAS value of 1.0 and is known to have shown visible growth effects among children within 90 days. As a parent, their physical, as well as their mental well being, is extremely important to me. Which is why I decided to go with a health drink that is packed with nutrition and reduces food battles in my house.
