Just this weekend we attended an ISKCON program on bhajans, a kids play on the birth of Krishna & a lecture on god in our lives. Ofcourse the daughter didn’t like the latter. But the first 2, she thoroughly enjoyed. Her favourite character is Devki, wonder why but I think she is also charmed by Krishna and feels like he is a wonder boy who can do just about anything. Ideally I would have liked to share the story with you but prefer it being audio – visual this time.

To re-emphasize the story we searched youtube for some great videos on Janmashtami, birth of krishna, many of his famous stories & how he kills Kansa.

We absolutely loved the videos and to ensure we save you some time. Have favourited them on the Kids Stop Press youtube channel. Click here to see all the videos. Its a 7 part series and you can watch it over a few days or a min of 3 videos at a time. The voice is clear, graphics brilliant and stories well narrated. How I wish they would do re-runs of BR Chopra Mahabharata & Ramanand Sagars Ramayana to make lives easier for moms.

What we did for Janmashtami?

1. Made prasad for Lord Krishna’s birthday party. We made some sandesh, walnut & Almond  sheera,

2. We made fresh flower garlands

3. Got white butter from nani’s house

4. Got small earthen pots from the market and painted them

5. Wrapped our 20 Rs flute with satin ribbon to make it look nice like Krishnas

6. Went to ISKCON temple. This is a must do for kids, get them oriented to offering prayers, getting prasad, chanting some mantras, shlokas, or whatever ritual is important to you. ISKCON is not about a religion but about belief and a movement about awareness of god. Very simple & practical.

Trust me your little toddler will love this.
