#JudgeMeNot: Being Judged ‘Coz You’re A Working Mom?

We at KSP asked moms to write in and share their experiences of being mom-shamed, judged and ridiculed and it is sad and heartening at the same time to the responses- heartening because moms have learnt to rise above these criticisms and emerge victorious in their own ways and sad-‘coz it’s 2018 and people still resort to rolling eyes, criticisms and judgements about a new mom’s life.

Are you one of the moms whose career has taken a backseat after your baby was born? KSP has had enough of mom judgement and we started this campaign that will resonate with every mom out there.

We at KSP asked moms to write in and share their experiences of being mom-shamed, judged and ridiculed and we have received numerous responses from moms who have been victims but decided to march ahead and pursue their dreams. Today’s story is about being judged because you choose to have a work life away from your kids

Scroll down to read this mom- Priyanka Balwani’s take on mom shaming and why we must rise above these judgements.

Every new mom is being judged for her decisions. And when it comes to an ambitious mother, you see eyebrows being raised even higher. I am a software engineer and after my wedding, with my husband's tremendous support I opened a coaching institute and now it has been going on for 4 years successfully.

Coming to my motherhood journey, I worked and taught till a day before my son was born! On my first visit to the gynaecologist, she gave me a golden advice. She said, “Pregnancy is not a disease. Baby doesn’t make you weak, but gives a lot of strength within and empowers you. So never stop working.” Those words worked wonders for me. I believed in my ability to keep working while I was told by many to quit my classes. But, I thought if I could do household chores, I could definitely work and continue my job.

And luckily, my son was born in Mach and the crucial three months with him coincided with the summer vacations. When I was all set to resume work with the onset of the new session, after summer, I heard people responding saying, "Look after your son and then teach other kids" or "It is too soon to start, doesn’t your baby need you more than your job?"

Even going to a salon to get a haircut or an eyebrow done was pathetically judged by people around me. But I chose to smile and move on.

I am proud of my decision today. And it’s all that matters. #judgemenot
