This year don't know what it was either the event calendar or the planning or all going to big and commercial. Its a great feel good factor that hey I went to the biggest cultural fest in the city but i looked around to teach the daughter or show her wonderful creations but there weren't too many. We entered the space with a huge installation of the Kala Ghoda and tried to take a pictures until the daughter thought it wasn't exciting enough. Moving on we checked out the stalls and the various installations that came by but this time the stalls all looked like clones of one another with ladies jewelery being the most popular one. We just managed to pick some slippers for the daughter and yeah that was literally the highlight as we finally found some good footwear for gurlz in the city. If you haven't read about it then click here. Here are the pictures of a few installations that were really nice and a few that we couldn't get pictures off but were remarkable: The table upside down and the spoon installation towards the Lions Gate entrance.
Apart from these we struggled to get the kids involved in anything else. The man with the 11 feet mustache who plays flute from his nostrils is like a permanent feature and we've seen him for years now. There was a puppet show for a bit but the main shows that evening were quite blah and while we waited there for a bit it just didn't seem to get all the steps of the Asiatic society filled. What we would have loved to see would be more stalls exhibiting different stuff but less known artisans. Installations like the last few years that would be breath taking and larger than life. Food stalls that were truly cultural and more Mumbai than of the restaurants in those streets. We would have liked a lot of live acts and less shopping. Every fest in Mumbai has literally become all about shopping which is kind of getting monotonous. We checked with a couple of people if they thought it was interesting too and we weren't surprised to hear that it was the same old recycled crap.
Kala Ghoda Fest 2012 needs to spice it up!
