What is it about?

The Ramayana remains as the most favourite epic that we grew up listening to as kids. This epic, along with the Mahabharatha taught us a lot of values, kindled our imagination and fostered some characters that are unforgettable even today. While Ramayana, as many might agree is all about the valour and virtues of Lord Rama, the story of Sita and how much she has to offer to the whole legacy of Rama is sidelined maybe? From getting to marry the man of her dreams, to fighting against all odds- Sita had it all tough, but her persistence and belief in herself saw her through them. Through this book, Pattanaik tells us the story of Ramayana from the eyes of Sita- and how she faced the battles in her life. Read it, to find a different perspective to the classic epic.

Why is this book on our shelf?

  • As much as I would want to read Roald Dahl books to my li’l girl, we make sure we have copies of the two epics and Krishna’s stories to fascinate the young mind. What better way to connect to our roots and culture than books, we ask?!
  • This book helps break down the Ramayana in a language that children can understand with interesting illustrations and a narration that is different from the usual ones.
  • We are all living in an era, where we have finally woken up to the needs of a woman and have we play an equal role in the society. While talking about raising feminist sons and a gender neutral home, it is essential we tell our kids the stories of brave women, who were subjected to troubled times, but emerged stronger and with a core that people can relate to even today.

You just got the right pick for your child’s bookshelf, this Navratri, as we celebrate the Goddesses!
