When there is a world of fantasy, magic, mysteries, and fairytales, science fiction and stories of discoveries often take a backseat. I have got these wonderful encyclopedias for my daughter on her birthday, and they lie there in the bookshelf, in the same brand new condition I got them, while the Harry Potters and Percy Jacksons have folded ears and worn out covers. Is this a common occurrence at your place too?

In our 7 Day FREE KSP Reading Challenge we broke it down to parents on how we can change the outlook of reading for kids- first us as parents and then involving the kids. Phase 1 of the challenge was a hit and we are very close to launching Phase 2 to help more parents raise young readers. Here's the link to join the KSP Reading Challenge.

What's new on KSP Book Club?

This week on KSP Book Club we talk to you about Hachette India's recent book for young readers- They Made What?/ They Found What? by Shweta Taneja. A fun flipbook for kids aged 6 and above, this book talks to kids about the stories of daring discoveries and ingenious inventions by Indian scientists.

What's the book about?

This 2-in-1 book comes with activities, fun facts, quizzes, trivia, and pictures of the scientists who put India on the world map when it came to inventions and discoveries. Shweta Taneja, a bestselling author in the Science Fiction & Fantasy genre has made this book more of an interesting read for kids than a book that screams just scientific facts all over.

The books give our kids a glimpse into the lives of famous scientists like Jagdish Chandra Bose, Mitali Mukherji, Sir CV Raman, Subhasis Chaudhuri, and others. Love the interesting segments in the book that prompt the kids to pick up a pencil and think and write, like the "Your Daily Water Meter" or the list that prompts kids to think of 10 things they want to invent, or the Brainy Quiz. These sections make sure the kids go back to the pages they read, understand it more, ask us a few more questions and analyze what they read. After all, isn't that the essence of reading?!

We would say this is ideal for kids 6  and older- the little ones will enjoy it more if you sit beside them and make it a perfect bonding opportunity to teach them and inspire them to think. We await more such interesting reads from Shweta that will help take today's Netflix generation closer to the magical world of science!
