Its important for kids to know the different senses and what each one is. And what’s a better way than to involve them in activities where they learn and participate as well! Here’s the first part to our Craft Ideas to teach kids the different 5 senses.

1. Touch and Feel Alphabet: This a great idea to introduce alphabets and touch to your kids. We all start using textures with books but using textures to learn alphabets is a great way to teach them. I often use sand, clay, glitter or even stickons to create alphabets. They retain it a lot better. They will enjoy learning alphabets and recognizing them later. You will need some construction paper , double stick tape ( or glue if you have time to let it dry), scissors, a marker, some materials that have various textures. Start by Writing the letters on construction paper, add the double sided tape and stick the textured material. While your kids are feeling the textures, ask them to describe how the texture feels and say the letter. Read more here.

2. Texture Sorting: You can use this idea to teach kids about shapes as well. And they will even learn about different textures! You will need a large piece of paper, some construction paper, materials with different textures. Start by cutting the different textured materials into various shapes like circles, clouds etc.  Cut the construction paper into bigger shapes to have enough space to stick the materials. Have your kids describe the textured feel. Read more here.

3. Soft and Hard Touch: This idea will help your kids identify the touch of soft and hard things. You will need a wipes container that has a rubbery opening or a kleenex box  , soft items like cotton balls, feathers, play doh and harder objects like blocks, keys and toy cars. Ask your child to reach out and pick something soft or hard. Then accordingly, sort all the things when they are out of the box. Read more here.
