One memory has really defined my school life. I was in seventh standard where we had a fun ‘chapter’ in our English language textbook about how an adventurous little girl wanders away from home and her subsequent independent assessment of the adult world.

As was customary, the teacher asked a student to stand up and read the chapter in class. On this day, I was the chosen one. For a reason I don’t remember anymore, I began reading using different voices. One for the girl, a different modulation each time she encountered an adult and another for her mother. My classmates warmed up to the ‘reading’ and really started getting in to the story. There were laughs, short claps while I felt like an actor taking centre stage.
