For parents like me, figuring out breakfast, lunch and dinner is easy, but snacks are where I am left most often groping in the dark. That’s because my kids don’t want to snack on the same things we adults are eating or they just refuse to eat plain fruit. So what is a mom to do? Turn to the ever-growing Indian packaged snack food market?

If you have seen brightly coloured packets of snacks for kids at your local Nature’s Basket or online on Amazon, then you have already been introduced to the products from Mumum Co. We have been eating chips and biscuits from packets for years, but buying a packed snack for your kids somehow seems wrong, doesn’t it?

What is Mumum Co?

Mumum Co. is the brainchild of two moms who were looking for healthy snacks for their kids and decided to look at ancient Indian snacks for inspiration. Their products are 100% fruit, veggies or grains. Contain no preservatives or added sugar and are gluten-free!

Mumum Co products are available in three variants – Sprinklies, Crunchies, and Melties.

Inviting and brightly coloured packets, star-shaped bites, and adorable names all make this a sure shot hit with the kids but as a discerning mom of two, I wasn’t convinced, just yet.

What Kidsstoppress thought about it:

Packed with healthy Indian food wisdom in the form of jowar, ragi, and barley with added fruits, these do seem like healthy snacks. But then it makes me wonder why I wouldn’t just buy puffed grains or a piece of fruit. There was a concern if a mix of these multi-grains would be easily digested by younger children. Corn to be more specific.

Packaged foods that are sans preservatives are a great idea for travelling, but given that local food adds to the charm of travelling, how many packets will one buy before a trip? That being said, Mumum Co. products are definitely better than packaged sugar-coated cereal or snacks and will keep them entertained and occupied during travel.

The Mumum Co. and that is music to a mom’s ears. For the kids that eat fruit, these may be appealing, but what about those kids who don’t willingly pick up a piece of fruit? Moms we spoke to, actually said that this product would not replace the fruit in their child’s diet. And older kids could easily make out there was fruit in the product simply by the strong taste.

The snacks are sweet and the Melties tend to stick to your teeth. It made me rush my child to brush her teeth!

I hate to reiterate it but if you are looking at Indian food wisdom and Indian snacks then why look any further than makhana, kurmura, chivda, dry fruits and nuts or better still seasonal fruits? Would you head out specifically to stock up on these?

Their promise of being sugar-free, preservative-free, with no artificial flavours and gluten-free is definitely going to register in a parent’s mind. Definitely a plus in a market that offers so few gluten-free products. In a store where a kids section only stocks junk food and candy, these snacks are a welcome surprise. Something every family could pick up once.

Definitely, works as a treat but what Mumum Co needs to work on is whether they want to remain a treat or carve a greater space for themselves in a child’s diet. We look forward to what exciting, new products they will launch next. Buy here
