We have a great project for you and your child to do this summer and this one is really for the birds! Jokes aside! During the scorching days of summer, let us spare a thought for our feathered friends and make them a home they can call their own. Not a nest, but a place where they can steal a few minutes away from the sun. Did you know that 20th March is World Sparrow Day? This day is being observed to raise awareness about this little bird and the threats the birds are facing due to the terrible pollution and our environmental conditions.
So let’s do our bit for the birds and create a shelter for them. Â We tell you how to create the perfect birdhouse. This one is easy, and we promise your kids will love making it and enjoy it all summer when their little-feathered friends come to visit! Watch the video to know how to build a colourful and pretty birdhouse.

Material
- Coloured Popsicle Sticks
- Foam flowers
- Glue
- Twine
- Scissors
- Baby Chick
Construction
- To build the floor of your birdhouse, arrange 8 Craft sticks vertically and secure them by glueing two craft sticks horizontally on either corner.
- To build the walls, keep glueing 2 craft sticks vertically and 2 sticks horizontally at the ends till you achieve your desired height.
- To build the roof of the birdhouse repeat step 1 twice. This will give you two pieces to work with.
- Join both the sides of the roof by attaching a paper in the middle so it bends like a roof. Make sure the paper is thick since it needs to hold the roof sides together.
- Add the foam flowers and baby chick to decorate your birdhouse.
- Your birdhouse is now ready. Using a length of twine to hang up your pretty little bird paradise. Put in some seeds or a small bowl of water inside so that the birds can have a drink or a snack while they rest in the shade.
We’re sure our feathered friends will appreciate all your hard work. Tell us or send us pictures of your birdhouse in the comments below. We’d love to see how your birdhouse turned out.
