6 Tips To Choose The Right Summer Camp For Your Child

A lot of moms often ask me what camp my child is going to or which summer activity I picked. This is a question that needs a lot of thinking because as a mom you know your child best and you are also aware of the resources in terms of time and funds.

So here are a few tips that will help you choose the right summer camp for your child.

1. Don’t Follow The Herd:

It’s not mandatory to send your child to a summer camp just because other kids are going. If you are travelling or have a great group of friends who make interesting plans every day to explore a new place or park and also organise regular play dates then you might not need a summer camp.

2. No Routine Is Good

Kids need stimulation but they also love not having a routine at times. They enjoy breaking out of their mundane chores and doing things at their leisure; just like the way adults like to unwind.

3. Understand your weakness:

As a parent, understand your weaknesses. For instance, you may not be an art and craft person or may not enjoy outdoor activities or may even not like reading. So use the camp as an opportunity out to expose your child to something you don’t like to do. That will automatically add value to your child. As the kids get older, pick a hobby or something that will add special skills and knowledge. For example, aeromodelling, language, music, chess, or different techniques of painting.

4. Proximity vs Quality:

I would rather pick something that works for my child and adds value to him than some neighbourhood class that is popular with parents. A summer class is not a place to park your kids for two hours but an opportunity to stimulate those little minds that absorb everything.

5. Travel- the best teacher

I genuinely believe that there is no better way to learn than to explore. Travel gives you that. If it’s going back to the grandparents, your native town, a kid-friendly holiday with friends or just short weekend trips and camping with kids, it’s all a great learning experience for the kids. If there are outbound camps for kids then you must give them a try.

6. Time available at home:

Let them learn valuable lessons simply by hanging out at home. For instance, he or she can help you in the kitchen and run errands. If you have a family member like grandparents, aunts, or cousins to give them company during their vacation, you don’t necessarily need a class. There are certain things that no class will teach them.
