We have heard of them both – Magic Fairy and Masaba Gupta. Magic Fairy is the go to destination to shop for party dresses for little girls. Masaba Gupta from House of Masaba has been making waves throughout the Indian fashion industry with her unique motifs and signature styles.
Magic Fairy has always had a unique collection of dresses hand-picked from international clothing outlets spread around the world. From graceful western outfits to classy chic gowns the brand promotes up market style and redefines the true meaning of the saying “fashion for allâ€_x009d_. Magic Fairy was started by Amrita Sawhney, a mom of two and a self made entrepreneur, and now after five successful years of Magic Fairy, Sawhney has achieved a new milestone! Magic Fairy and House Of Masaba have come together to design an exclusive collection of outfits for girls called Sugar Dolls.
Ksp chats with both Sawhney and Gupta about their new collection.
Masaba on the collaboration:
“Amrita reached out to us to do this line. And since we hadn’t done kidswear and we found a perfect fit and a great partner like Magic Fairy, we jumped on the offer.”
Sugar Dolls is for girls in the age group of 2-9 years and includes playsuits, jumpsuits, dresses, shorts, and skirts!
Masaba on the inspiration for the collection:
“Sweet candies, blossoming flowers , chirping birds and a fetish for a camera, this collection is inspired by everything kids love.” (The collection) offers a wide variety of dresses, jumpers, crop-tops and skirts.
Keeping with the theme of girls being all about sugar and spice and everything nice, they decided to call the collection – Sugar Dolls. They have also introduced a pop of fruit flavoured colours through crop tops, playsuits and dresses. The collection has tons of fun prints in bright, bold colours that is a must for this season. The material used is soft so the little fashionistas can remain comfortable while being stylish. Each piece in the collection has a fun name like Skittles Suspenders and Strawberry Cheesecake Playsuits.

Amrita on the essential difference between Magic Fairy and Sugar Dolls:
“It was always my vision to have smart casuals as a part of the Magic Fairy Label and the collaboration with Masaba worked out very well. It has been really amazing to put this collection together where kids have a chance of being dressed  in smart designer outfits!”
Masaba is well known in industry circles and is a force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry. So how was it designing for a completely different audience this time around?
Masaba: “It’s challenging. But it’s a very very big learning exercise. It was a natural progression because the label is young & easily translates and connects with all age groups.” “It was was fun because they are so open and free. they don’t have any apprehensions obviously so it’s easier. Having said that comfort plays a big part in styling kids.”
Ksp had to find out when styling kids what do Indian parents do wrong?

Amrita and Masaba both feel parents should not:

  1. Overdo accessories and hairdos. “I think simple is best”, says Masaba
  2. Give them garments they can breathe in or else children will get irritable.
  3. Keep the colors and styles easy and light, kids should be styled like kids not grown ups, they say.
Pricing:
The collection is priced very competitively with Rs. 1800 for dresses and playsuits and under Rs. 1000 for crop tops.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
