Sesame Street is welcoming a new member to the show! Now 6 year old Zari will join Elmo, Big Bird, Bert and Ernie and so many others in welcoming children to Sesame Street.  Zari is making headlines because she is from Afghanistan. While she will be a regular on the Afghan version of the show, she will feature in special segments that deal with empowerment, national identity, and physical health in the US version.

Zari joins the ranks of Raya and Kami who are muppets from India and South Africa that local versions of Sesame Street use to teach important lessons to children in these countries. Zari is dressed in a colourful outfit and even wears a hijab!

Looks like Sesame Street is echoing global sentiments and being more inclusive in their corner of the world.
