Congrats, new mom! After hours of enduring the impossible, you are finally ready to welcome the little bundle of joy (literally!) and thus begins a new phase of life. You would have read countless number of articles and heard from personal experiences but nothing prepares you for this as much as the live experience. Things were much simpler and easy when you were carrying and people used to pamper you with love and food at the same time! Come to terms with the fact that all the love and pampering will take a backseat now and will even make you envious of the new recipient of all this love! The first few weeks or even months are crucial as it preps you in getting to know your kid, firsthand. Here is a list of essentials that every new mom must own that only moms who have been there can tell you!

You would wonder why this comes on top of the list! Trust me, it is that important. Elders in the family would tell you tales of how we were raised in a no-cellphone era and we ended up fine. But times have changed and this is a must. Times when you are tied to the bed when your li’l one latches onto you and falls asleep you will need something to keep you entertained. What better than staying in touch with friends or checking up on some mommy articles (like this one!) Make sure there is a plug point in your room to make things easier for you.

Nothing is more important for a new mom than to stay hydrated. So make sure to invest in a bottle that you can carry around, place next to you and one that you will drink from. We love the ones you can flip open with one finger so you can cradle baby with one arm and have a drink of water from the other other.

7. Bath Salts, Massage Oils

Mom needs some pampering too after the nightmare that was labour. Your body will take weeks to recover and it needs to be loved. So go ahead and get yourself some salts to soak in the bath. In India you can find someone to massage your back and tummy for a few weeks after labour. Think about yourself and make sure you are happy, if you are then baby will be too.

8. A Mom Friend

Yes, this is crucial. You need to hear the ‘we have all been there, it gets better’ line. Find a friend whose brain you can pick. Who has been there, done that. This will be the friend you can call just when you want to rant and complain about the dog days ahead.
