As part of our name recommendation service, we also closely work with parents to understand their preferences and expectations of a name.  While preferences vary by state and geography, given below are the top trends that we regularly hear from parents from Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities

1.    Tier-1 cities

a.    Shorter Names are preferred for girls. For boys, parents are keen to experiment with longer ones such as Raajveer or Reyansh.

b.    There is a strong emphasis that the name should be easy to pronounce Internationally & not just India.

c.    There is no restriction of the starting letter. Parents are ready to experiment with letters as long as the name blends well with the surname and has a good meaning.

d.    There is an increased awareness and preference on numerology while deciding their child's name.

2.    Tier-2 cites:

a.    Long and cultural names continue to be the preferred option.

b.    Spirituality is often seen as the theme for names selection. As such, for boys, names based on Lord Shiva or Krishna and for girls, names based on Goddess Durga are often requested.

c.    Names that begin with a letter of their Raashi or Nakshatra is mostly a mandate along with a Numerology balance.

While addressing the above request is often part of our service, for us a name is more than just the meaning it carries. A name creates an individual’s narrative and his/her distinct identity – that is defined by unique behavioural traits that distinguish one from another. Yes, every letter in the name plays an important role in shaping his/her life and weaving the story of happiness.
